Malen means girl, young woman in Mapudungun. A word that holds memory and imagines possible futures. Fundación Malen creates and circulates Mapuche performing arts, transmitting knowledge that the body remembers even when no one has taught it. Mapudungun and Catalan share something that needs no translation: the memory of cultures that resist, are passed down through generations and find in art a form of community. We promote dance and arts education as living practices to preserve language, recover memory and activate embodied knowledge. From a contemporary Indigenous identity, we seek to connect with diverse and distant communities, because possible futures are built when peoples with memory come together. Contemporary dance and Mapuche identity in dialogue with the global live arts circuit.
